Brief Description
2600 - Advanced Medicolegal Forensic Investigation
Full Description
The Advanced Medicolegal Forensic Investigation training course is designed for coroners, medical examiners, and medicolegal investigative personnel and is intended to provide continuing education.

This session topic is Suicide Investigations. Suspected suicide investigations require medicolegal death investigators to conduct methodical, objective, and evidence-based investigations that integrate scene findings, decedent history, witness information, and other evidence. While many suicides present with textbook/characteristic investigative findings, others involve complex or equivocal circumstances that require careful review to distinguish a suicide from other manners of death. Thorough scene and follow-up investigations can assist with accurate cause and manner of death and also provide critical information for public health surveillance, epidemiologic research, and surviving family and friends. Attendees will gain knowledge and skills necessary to integrate scene findings, autopsy results, toxicology, and other investigative information into accurate, objective, and legally defensible determinations of cause and manner of death while reducing common investigative pitfalls and biases.
