AGENCIES OUTSIDE OF KING COUNTY register for the CIT 40-HR Basic Statewide class.

This program is funded by the Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) 2 Initiative PRI-08: Crisis Intervention Training – First Responders for King County Sheriff, Police, Jail Staff, Fire/EMS, and Other First Responders. In collaboration with the King County Sheriff’s Office and King County Behavioral Health and Recovery Division.

Who’s eligible to attend:
        o King County:
             - law enforcement agencies,  
             - jail staff, and
             - other first responders in King County.

This class educates attendees on issues related to Crisis Intervention and will provide:
         o updated materials,
         o skills, and
         o public relations as they relate to working with mentally ill individuals while on duty.

The class covers the legal aspects of:
        o mental health commitments,
        o liability issues,
        o behavioral health signs and symptoms and medication,
        o Involuntary Treatment Act process,
        o de-escalation techniques and crisis communication skills,
        o cultural considerations,
        o behavioral health resources within King CO,
        o crisis diversion options,
        o immersion programs with NAMI,
        o Peer Supports, and others,
        o presentations from those with lived experience,
        o the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their
                families, and the mental health system; and
        o intervention strategies for dealing with both low and high-risk situations.

Role-playing:
        o Students should be prepared to participate in role-playing scenarios during this class.

        o None

Dress Code:  
        o For security reasons, while on the WSCJTC campus are encouraged to wear their agency
                logo shirt/uniform and have their agency ID badge visible.

        o Reimbursement is available for this class. See the CIT Reimbursement Rates below.

              - Course times vary – check course session for more information.

Cancellation Policy:
        o Deadline to cancel is 7 calendar days prior to class.
              - Cancellations are completed by the agency's training manager in the WSCJTC Acadis
                        Portal.
